Active Colchester is a Community Sports Network. Community Sports Networks (CSN's) are seen as an integral part of the delivery system for sport, providing a locally co-ordinated partnership for increasing participation in sport and physical activity. Active Colchester is made up of two groups a Strategic Group and a Club Forum.

The Strategic Group is a group of local delivery agents from a range of relevant organisations and sectors to; identify local needs and potential interventions and develop a locally shared vision with buy in from key partners; secure resources from a broad range of partners to deliver indentified interventions and outcomes;focus upon building capacity to increase participation and widen opportunities. The Active Colchester strategic group is made up of partners including NHS North East Essex, Colchester Borough Council, Sport Essex, Colchester Blackwater Schools Sports Partnership, Exteneded Schools, University of Essex and Colchester United Community Sports Trust.

The Club Forum is comprised of local voluntary sports clubs, key members of the local sporting community and NGB's. The primary function of the Club Forum is to help organisations within Colchester's voluntary and community sports sector to develop and grow, so they can attract more resources and deliver better sporting and personal development opportunities to their members and communities. It also provides an opportunity for clubs to get together and share examples of good practice, voice any concerns, and improve communication within the sporting environment in Colchester.

It is also an opportunity to find out more about your clubs and how Active Colchester can support clubs, in addition to providing informative workshops on subjects such as funding, accreditation, safeguarding guidelines and volunteering.

This website is one outcome from the Active Colchester group, it is designed to ensure that clubs get up to date information and provide an opportunity for clubs to advertise their activities, whilst simultaneoulsy being a point of information for individuals wanting to find out about sport and physical activity opportunities in Colchester.
